The month of September was hectic. Between hurricane Irma, nursing difficulties, family emergencies, and various other events happening, it was hard to keep up with my daily tasks.
How was I supposed to catch up on my writing?
Let’s go back a few weeks when we didn’t know where Irma was going. Everyone was enveloped with the hurricane and now, days before it was predicted to make landfall, it was coming our way. They claimed that the eye would cross right over my home town. However, last minute, Irma took a detour and spared us the eye of the storm. Still in Irma’s path, on Sunday night the winds became violent, knocking down our neighborhood powerlines, plunging us into total darkness. My brother and I rely heavily on electricity for our health.
I was overwhelmed with a sense of anxiety and uncertainty.
Turn on the generator!
It didn’t work. They tested the generator just before the storm and it worked perfectly! I couldn’t believe what was happening!
What would we do?
My parents had a brilliant idea. They improvised and turned on our van as our power source. Stressed out, my parents worked tirelessly to get the power restored.
86,400 seconds.
1,440 minutes.
Nearly 24 hours without power felt like an eternity… 24 hours of humidity, close sweltering body heat and no running water to wash off.
Never before had I contemplated how much I rely on electricity until this hurricane hit.
In a similar way, I forget how much I rely on the Lord for each breath I take. When life seems easy, I neglect to praise Him and give him thanks for everything He has blessed me with. As simple as this is, I am provoked to give Him thanks when hunger strikes. I thank God for all he has given me and for His provision in my life.
If you feel yourself drifting away from Christ, fix your eyes back onto Him! If we depend on Him throughout every season, our lives become so much richer.
I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:12-13
The Lord will sustain us on our worst and best days and He loves us just the same.
