The Wisdom of an Owl

“...and pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and request.”

Ephesians 6:18a (NIV)

This past Monday was stressful. Procrastination hit me hard and I put off my speech until the last second. I was pressed for time. At this point, all I could do was pray,

Lord,

Please help me with my speech today and instill confidence in me. I pray that my story will impact all who hear my story in a way they’ve never experienced before. Thank you for sustaining me to this very moment.

Amen

When I arrived I realized, the women I would be presenting to are accomplished musicians, artists, authors, bloggers, and more.  I was definitely the youngest person in the room. I quickly noticed that the room was full of wisdom and knowledge and my nerves were frayed.

How can I present to a group of such eloquence?

I felt as if I was a tiny timid mouse surrounded by wise owls. When I began to present, a profound confidence washed over me. Contrary to my doubts, the ladies seemed intrigued by my journey of writing and art. It was in that moment I learned that no matter the age difference, we all have something to learn from one another. Young or old, experienced or novice, we all have an opportunity to learn if we are willing to give the gift of time to listen to others.
